Davey was a guy who put on huge miles, and loved to rip and roar along the back roads. He took me to many places that are now some of my favorite places and roads. Even after I no longer rode with the WBMC I would see Davey at rallies and other events. We always managed to find one another and enjoy seeing each other. Davey was a musician and enjoyed music, in fact the last time I saw him was several years ago at a Blues festival in Wisconsin. We ended up having a business relationship too, as he was my tax accountant for many years. Davey did not have a family of his own, and we in the motorcycle community, the West Bank MC and Minnesota BMW club in particular. were his extended family.
I would like to have a "Davey Ride", that would embody what it was that he loved to do when riding. I am planning this for Saturday September 18, 2010. I know this is the same day as the Flood Run, but the route sheet that I found from 18 years ago was actually held on the same day as the Flood Run, and I think it would be appropriate to have it that day.
I know that will cause some conflicts for some, but I am hoping you can still join me. This ride will be along some very fine State Highways, County Roads, Rustic Roads, and Rural Roads in Wisconsin. I want to leave from the Holiday gas station on Manning Ave., just north of I 94 @ 9:30am. The route I have laid out is about 210 miles, and will end at the Alpine Inn on County Road F, at the entrance to Grand Dad's Bluff in LaCrosse, WI.
This will not be a bar cruise, nor will there be lots of stops for b.s.ing; Davey loved to ride and that's what I plan to do. I will provide detailed route sheets, with turn by turn directions, as well as noting the availability of gas and rest areas. There will not be a "road captain", corner markers, or tail rider, I want people to ride at their own pace and have fun. I believe we can get to the Alpine Inn, by 1:30 or 2 pm, and still get back to the cities by dark. However, if people wish to camp or get motel rooms that is certainly up to them. I don't know how many to expect, but I am confidant that everyone that goes along will have a good time.
