2008 - Another year to explore the roads on two wheels.
Another year to spend time with the people that share your interests.
Lets make this a safe year. Our goal is zero accidents and fall downs.
----
See all of those red lines and the white space between them? ----
That space is open for contributions from the West Bank Motorcycle Club members. I'm waiting for your words of wisdom, interesting things you want to share or just random ramblings - please send them in.
Don't worry about the spelling or formatting - I'll get it fixed for display.
If you send in pictures please also send in some text for the captions.
I'm really looking forward to seeing something other than my words and pictures on these pages this year. Let's start a tradition of sharing words.

2008.01.02 On this Second day of January a segment of the WBMC gang was able to make it to the Junction for a bit of libation, eats and chit-chat. I remember the following people being present (sorry that I can't remember everyone - but it's true that buying me refreshments does help remembering names) Steve F, Jason, Milo, Mike & Karen, Duane & Renee, Scott & Sue; Chad & Sandy, Kara, Tracey, Jim M, Scarfy, Mike McC, Mark & Jenelle. oops - that's all - brain turned off -
Sorry if I didn't mention you. See Milo's pics on photos page.
Got the 'cold facts' and run down on the I-Cycle derby from our own Mark K who managed to stay up on two wheels and complete the run. He wasn't in the first couple of places but then again he wasn't in last couple of places. The best I can remember is something like 14th out of 20 - Not bad since he lost one of the route cards and had to back track to find it again. Lucky guy...
Steve F was there to take pictures of the start and they are available from the photo's page. Thank you Steve.
Milo was busy taking pictures and as soon as he gets them to me you all will be able to see who showed up.
None of the agenda items were discuss so it looks like there will need to be another 'meeting' - See you-all on the first Wednesday of February.

2008.01.17 Check out that ride start date - We are now down to double digits and it won't be long before we are out of the typical 'coldest' month, slide through the shortest month (with the added day this year) and then start rolling out the bikes into the ever warming weather. Time to mark the calendar for a 'check the bike over day'. My batteries are charged, tires look good and only an oil change and a little grease here and there before another spring; summer and fall riding season. ~hn Remember: Feb. 6th is the First Wednesday... show up...

2008.01.23 Oh how the time flies. Only 9 days to the International Motorcycle Show.
After that there are only, lets see 29 minus 1 (or 2 or 3) plus 29 - well, it's less than 60 days to the Road Captain/20 Riders meeting. Remember to mark your calendar so you show up... ~hn

2008.02.07 The International Motorcycle Show and another 1st Wednesday get together at the Junction are now past events. If you missed the meeting jump on over to the Photo's page to get a glimpse of Milo in a suit along with the goings on of the 25 or so that showed up.
Next on the agenda is the total eclipse of the moon on the 20th at around 9:01pm CT - See the Events page.
50 days to the Road Captain/20 Riders meeting then the week after is the General Membership meeting.
You've got 70 or so days to get your bike in running order so start planning now... You don't want to miss out on the first ride - do ya. Or De-Frost Yur Nuts & Flood Run ~hn

2008.02.12 ScottP provided some upcoming events you-all may be interested in.
All WestBankers are welcome to decend on Kara's house on Feb 23rd to celebrate Kara's and ScottP's birthday's. Call Kara or Scott for further info/directions.
Wednesday, February 27, 2008 is the 5th annual Bikerday at the Minnesota State Capitol.
Check SCVR.org for more information.
This is important for everyone who rides a motorcycle.
Here's what's at stake:
-Maintain YOUR right to wear or not wear a helmet
-Increase penalties for those who injure or kill YOU
-Make motorcycle awareness part of all drivers training
-The possibility of no longer being covered by your insurance in the event of an accident (several insurance companies are opting not to cover bikers in accidents!)
--- and much more!
NOTE: To get in on the Official BikerDay your asked to register by 2-18-2008
March 29th is the Road Captain/20 riders meeting.
Also on March 29th & 30th don't forget to get your butt on over to the Donnie Smith Bike Show. A few of our members will be showing their bikes which they have worked hard on throughout the year. This show is lots of fun with plenty of bike styles and classes represented.

2008.02.20 The Total Eclipse of the moon will occur on Wednesday night. This will be your last chance to see one until December 21st, 2010.
The earths shadow will touch the moon starting at 7:43 p.m. CST. 78 minutes after that (9:01pm for the math and time challenged and 21:01 for the rest of us) the moon will be entirely within the earths shadow. After 51 minutes (average for a total lunar eclipse) the moon will begin to come out at the lower left (southeastern) edge.
If you miss this one you'll have to wait almost three years, until Dec. 21, 2010 for the next total lunar eclipse to be visible from the West Bank Motorcycle Club back yard.

2008.02.29 Today is that extra day that comes but once every four years.
Use it wisely...
Got any good information you want to share with the rest of the WBMC - send it in.

2008.03.04 Tomorrow just happens to be the first Wednesday of the month.
Are you going to make it down to The Junction...

2008.03.12 Time for the Ambassodors to get out and contact the past and future sponsors - Ambassodors responsibitities run for a full year which takes you up until the General Membership Meeting on April 5th.
Anyone with something they want on the meeting agenda should get details to the Treasurer or Secretary now.
I Finally got around to updating the web site statistics.
Look for
Web Site Statistics at the right of the front page. Look at the Countries; full list and the Hosts; Full list.
I find the stats interesting but it's main use for me is to weed out the spammers and page scrappers...

2008.03.14 If you see a yellow popup banner about "... SVGControl Module 2.0' ... click here...." be assured that clicking to install the module is safe.
Its only seen on IE so far. Need more info - see: Whatz Up - Website
So what else is new - Sat. breakfast at The Junction...
Got the bike cleaned, oiled and ready to go...

2008.03.21 Darrell sent up some pics of his VTX on which he has installed blue Lazer LED's. More pics he sent are on the photo's page. Have a look. Since moving to New Mexico he's been very good about letting us know the temperature down there.
Take a look on the News tab for the current newsletter where he sends us Christmas greetings (page 5) ~hn
2008.03.24 All you with your 20 ride patch and those that have earned the Road Captains patch should plan on attending the Road Captains / 20 Riders meeting on March 29th (see Events page).
This is where you nominate candidates for the various offices, pay dues and present issues that will be voted on by the general membership on April 5th. This is also the first chance to signup for rides.
Anyone with something they want on the meeting agenda should get details to the Treasurer or Secretary now. ~hn
>>> One last thing -- Bring your dues payment...

2008.03.29 Sat Road Captain / 20 Riders meeting at The Junction.
Great turn out - over 35 showed up. A dozen were on bikes (Yes, Jack was on a bike). Business was taken care of and then the serious business of getting into the spring/summer party spirit became the center of attention for most of the attendees. By dark there were only a couple of persons left tasting a new salsa concoction called 'No Bull Salsa' which may be on the market this summer.

2008.03.29 Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day despite the early weeks warnings of snow. The temps climbing towards 50 must have been what brought out the dozen or more bikes and over 32 persons to quickly go through the administrative details of nominating officers and getting various other items on the agenda for next weeks General membership meeting.
I got a bunch of pictures but somehow managed to always have something that needed my attention so the pictures will take another day or two.
Don't forget that we will be squeezing in another 1st Wednesday this week. Mike McC. has already been making calls to gather the flock together.
I'd give you the list of officers and other things on the General membership ballot but I'm not very good at taking notes so you'll have to show up this Saturday if you want to have any say at all in to WBMC's operation.
And look at that count down clock -- It's gettin' close.
By the time the General meeting is over we will be under 20 days left to make sure the bike is ready to roll...

2008.04.01 Tentative agenda for General Membership Meeting Saturday:

New Business to be voted on:
To receive patches:
A.) Leave well enough alone
B.) Change rules to read;
To receive life patch / 200,300,400 etc. patches - No longer would you need to achieve these numbers by doing them in consecutive years.
C.) Change rules to read;
Life patch would still need to be 5 consecutive years of 20 rides per year. After receiving the life patch, all subsequent patches would no longer need to be in consecutive years
Other Business: ? (as usual the loudest voices will be ignored.)
If there are any other issues I ain't heard of them... ~hn

2008.04.01 Curious as to what goes on at the Road Captain/20 riders meeting? Here are Lissa's notes:

2) Life Patch Discussion:

WBMC election results
for 2008:
Treasurer: Scott Peplinski
Secretary: Sandy Ellingson
WebMaster: Harald Nendza

Safety Directors: Mark Cady,

Ambassadors: Mike Green, Lissa Landmark, Gary Zimmerman

Change to 'patches' rules: Leave well enough alone.
It was starting to look like
a real light turnout before noon but by the time the
meeting was over there must have been 40-45 present.
There were also plenty of bikes. Once the meeting
and chatting was over a few of of the members
grouped up and headed out to places like Prescott
for shrimp. Haven't heard if they made it. I did
notice a few that just couldn't decide on when to
leave or where to go. The weather remained
good with the temps into the mid 50's plus. And most
welcome - the roads were dry with most of the salt
far to the sides.
Watch out for those heaves,
dips and all the large concrete chunks and rocks on
the roads. The pot holes are still numerous and many
are quite deep.
We should mark some of the
worst and most dangerous pot holes and see how long
it takes our tax dollars to get them fixed up...

2008.04.15 You have until midnight to get your taxes in the mail - but while it's still daylight take the time to get that bike of yours roadworthy. On Wednesday take that bike down to The Junction on a test ride. Then you will be ready for the Flood Run this weekend 4/19.
Intercepted the following message off of the net:
Meet @ the Boathouse 10am, shrimp & oysters for
breakfast?
It's supposed to be wheelie nice out!
I'd like to welcome a new (returning) sponsor:
Roy's Repair - Right now they are having a sale that is running to the end of April. See the sponsors page, visit their web site or run on down to the shop - They are located just a bit south of The Junction.
2008.04.21 Flood Run turnout for the West Bank Motorcycle Club was pretty good with more than 13 at last count showing up for the early (by West Bankers standards) Shrimp and Oysters breakfast at Boat Drinks. I got there at about quarter to nine and there was Vern standing in the door. Within minutes there came Kevin and Brad. Then there was a rider or two every 5 to 10 minutes. Most of the group stayed down below with a few venturing up to Broad Street to mingle with the ever growing crowd.
Before noon it was time to get out of town before the main mob. We stayed on 35, bypassed Diamond Bluff and made the next stop Maiden Rock. Said Hi to Dave McL
and verified that he was still hosting the first
ride. Hung around for a bit more and then headed on
down the road making Nelson the next stop. It was
real quiet what with the large number of cops in
view. On to Alma where we stopped at a park just
short of town for another break. Weather was still
cloudy and cool. Would it rain or not was the
question. We decided not to press our luck and
headed back to Prescott for more shrimp.

Hey - Hey - Hey -- Look at that countdown timer... 5 Days...
We are coming up on that first club ride of the season which will be this Saturday, April 26th, 2008 noon leave. The destination will be to the Ride Captains home again this year. Let's not forget to thank Dave for doing all the work needed to get ready for this and putting up with the spills and 'thrills' that seem to come natural to our group.
On another note - Those looking at the ride schedule may notice that it is not up to date. We are working on this. Drop the WebMaster a note to hurry up the process. ---
It's Done. ~hn

2008.04.24 Before you do anything else take a look at the Letter from the Treasurer for the 2008 season. Then those that haven't looked at the Events page - Yes, The first ride is this Saturday. The Road Captain will be Dave M. and the planned route will be a nice, lazy
scenic round-about that will end up at his place.

2008.04.26 Sat First Club Ride. RC & host 'Hi-Ya Busa' Dave.

Global Warming?
At 6:30am it's 32F and dropping, wind west
23mph, wind chill 18F.
Snow on the ground,
more is predicted to come.
This after 70s & 80s the past couple of weeks.
I Wonder what the turnout
will be?
I've got my '79 BMW R100RT
on the charger just in case the temp's
climb just a
little bit before my 11am leave. May even put the
'83 HD XLH on the charger just in case I'm feeling I
need something a bit closer to the ground so I can
use my feet as out-riggers for stability. Now at 9:45 it's up to 35
with the sun peeking out.
Looks like we may luck
out for the one's riding on two wheels. With light snow
falling, along with the temperature, it's time to
head down to The Junction - Weather can only get better (and it did).
>>>>> Here's the link to Dave's Ride Report
At The Junction I find Dave T. outside
enjoying one of his humongous cigars; Vern is
inside keeping warm.
Wasn't long before Mark
K, Davey, Steve and a couple of other riders arrived. Then, as if knowing all had shown up,
Dave appears to lead the 7 of us on the 1st West Bank Motorcycle
Club ride of the 2008 season.

I was all for heading to
Prescott for some shrimp but Dave had
his mind set
on heading to his place. The road was in really good
driving condition as we headed up Washington and
then north on Broadway. He must really like stop
lights and pot holes. But it didn't take long and we
were beyond the stoplights on every block and
heading into Brooklyn Center.

Pat, Dave's wife had hot
food already lined up on the table and everyone was
more than ready to dig in.
Needless to say once the
food and refreshments were out everyone settled into
a seat in the garage and it was talk; munch; talk;
munch from then on out. Pat tried to get the gang
into the basement 'play room' a couple of times but
everyone seemed quite happy in the garage.
In between the eating a
bunch of those that showed up on 4 wheels took a
'ride around the block' for ride credit.
The snow and wind did not
spoil the 1st ride of the season & party - I'm sure
it just made it more enjoyable. The last of
the group finally left just after 6:30.
Everyone please remember to thank Dave for hosting
the party. <
Pictures are posted > Anyone with pictures they wish to share with the rest of us please get them sent in soon.

2008.04.30 Baja Sol Cantina for south of the border food and drink. RC: MarkC
Mark dragged a lot of people to some find dining south of the cities.
Somehow this ride got missed until now - 23rd June. Guess this is what happens when there's no ride report... photo's also did not get posted until mid June...

2008.05.02 Finally got Dave's pics from the First Ride on photo's page.
Ride Schedule can now be viewed as web page (default link) or .pdf file.

2008.05.03 Wandroos or Bust - RC PaulM
With the weather so nice, as in it wasn't raining or snowing, I just couldn't continue on with the Wet Noodle Run without rain so I drew a new map with Wanderoos, Wisconsin as the destination.
Due to the wonderful weather we've been having this spring I wasn't able to pre-ride these roads.
There were just two deviations from the map, one to bypass construction and another to go on PP instead of just Cty P'ing.
I was looking for dirty corners all day. The roads were cleaner than in the summer and hopefully nobody slipped at all like myself.
All the celebrities of Wanderoos were there to greet us.
Tony O. came with his new ST and the Hat even pumped up his tires for the ride.
What else could anyone want other than to win the lottery.

After leaving Wanderoos we stopped in Scandia.
All these people showed up to watch Tracey do some stunt riding in the Meister's parking lot after the ride.

2008.05.04 Slimey Crud Run RC: KevinM
The Slimey Crud Run happens two times a year; once in the spring and again in the fall. It starts somewhere southwest of Mad City and ends up in Leland WI.
But our ride started at Hwy 10 and Hwy 61. I got there at 6:15 take off time. Within minutes, having Paul, Harald and John in tow, we where off to southern Wisconsin.
We tried to make time going down so we hit WI 35 and cut over to Hwy 61 at Red Wing then down to I-90; across to 154; down to Hwy 33.
Hwy 33, if you haven’t rode down it yet, is a road you need to look into. It twists through Wildcat Mountain State Park.
It is the closest you can get to mountain riding in the upper mid-west.
Leland is a very little two bar town and on Slimey Crud day it holds well over 200 motorcycles of all makes and models.
It is something to see as bike after bike rolls in to this little town.
We sat here a few hours to take in the sights and a few beers.
As 3pm came we were back on the road again - then it was back up 33 to 27 to I-90 to Hwy 108 and Mindoro cut.
This is a road you also need to get on to.
The day was starting to get long and it only got longer as Paul took the lead in Wabasha. We turn on MN 60 - a very nice road but it sure goes south a long way before it turns to the west. We also got behind a batch of RV’s.
The day was long, the ride was great.
I had 544 miles and 15 hours. Get out there and RIDE.
Ride Eat Sleep Triumph - Get some R.E.S.T.
Kevin M.
> And here is my ramblings for this ride (why? because I can and you didn't ) ~hn
Getting up at 4:40am after a Saturday ride is no easy task (for some of us). Add in an absolute 6:15am leave time from The Point and you really start to look forward to the upcoming 550 mile round trip.
On this ride with Kevin were PaulM, Harald & JohnW
One of the things that make it a fun endeavor is that you get to scream down some very scenic and twisty roads.
I did not take any pictures while driving - sorry about that.
The short stretch through Wildcat Mountain State Park had some great scenic views but watching the road made more sense considering we were following Kevin.
A helmet mounted camera would have been great.
No actual peg scraping but it was close on a number of those 35, 25 and 15 mph curves - we were, of course, maintaining a reasonable speed the whole time...
< short write up on the highways taken is in the works - wait for it >
You can almost get a sense of the enjoyment we felt by looking at the Google Map in Satellite view.
Starting at Mindoro, WI, follow 108 south, east to Bangor and down 162. When on 33 east - just keep going.
You can also start at LaCrosse (our inbound route) and follow 33 east. It's a great rainy day armchair tour.
There are lots of pictures of the crowd and bikes at the Slimey Crud Run and a couple of stops on the way.
Showing up in the afternoon was 'Hi-Ya Busa' Dave.
We hung around, kicking tires and telling stories for a couple of hours and then headed back by way of the Mindoro Gap; back on I90 until we could head West on Hy 60 to re-enter the cities on Hy52/55.
I did a couple side roads near home to get to an indicated 550 miles on the odometer for the day.

2008.05.07 Cardinal Tavern RC: FredM Jr.
A Short hop down the parkway on the west side of the river and then west on Hiawatha parkway. Wasn't long before the 50 plus 1 bikes overflowed both parking lots. The bikers quickly made their way inside, threatening to squeeze out the locals already occupying the seats.
Rachel did a superb job of providing the refreshment to alleviate the dry mouth that occurs on these long runs. This also got many outside on the patio allowing others to find seating so they could enjoy the superb food.
A couple of other members showed up; DaveE got a 'ride round the block' from Tracey; many new faces were in the crowd; a couple of new members were signed up and we left the place in one piece - well after dark.
A number of us headed back to the Junction & Joint to continue on in a festive mood.
The highlight of the late evening was the availability of getting a ride in a Race Car. Scarfy & Scott took the quick, rip-roaring trip around the Junction/Joint triangle.
It was sometime after the midnight hour that most of the members and friends heard the 'call to home'.

2008.05.10 Ride to Scandia RC: KevinM.
Well I guess we now know who the real riders in the club are after this Saturday's ride.
I would like to thank the 10 brave soles that came on a real great ride. Two of them, Yvonne and Mark signed up for membership on this ride. This ride ended up at Meister's in Scandia. For the most part it was dry going out. We went down some new routes that some people told me they had not been on before. The ride ended up being about 60 miles and a lot of smiles. You all do know we ride on Saturday also.
Ride Eat Sleep Triumph - Get some REST - Kevin M.
It was a great route around Bald Eagle Lake, up to Marine on St. Croix and then over to Scandia on really great roads that had not been traveled by most of us.
The food and service was also great. This alone make this a very enjoyable ride. Now going back was a little damp but it was mostly from the road spray. ~hn

2008.05.14 Tavern On The Avenue RC: MikeG.
A large group made a long, wandering ride on the parkways and streets of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The riders got strung out but most managed to get back into the pack around St. Paul. One (for sure) or two tried the adventure routes, also called alley's, as shortcut but this brought them adventure but not closer to catching up. It is interesting to note that these lost soles did make it to the Tavern well before the rest of the group.
My best guess is that we ended up with about 50 crowding into the Tavern On The Avenue to enjoy the great service, food and beverages. Well after dark the place started to clear out with a number of people heading over the bridge to the place where Kara tends.
There are plenty of open rides left on the ride schedule.
Contact the
to sign up for a ride.

2008.05.17 Japanese Motorcycle Show RC: PaulM.
A quick trip to Kline Suzuki for a look at vintage Japanese motorcycles.
Afterwards a few headed to Don's Little Bar to enjoy the sprinkles.
Another small group went a bit further and ended up at Klinker's Korner Bar in Baldwin (a WBMC sponsor).
Chris Klinker, the owner, wants the WBMC members to be aware that they are having a ride on June 14th. They plan on a leave somewhere around 11:30 to cruise around some of the fine roads in the neighborhood.

2008.05.21 TangleTown RC: Mike 'Tornado' McCabe
A little high speed highway, a couple of sweeping high speed off ramps - the wind wipping over your shoulders as we tour around a few lakes -
ending up next to the landmark water tower near Minnehaha creek in TangleTown.
- - - - More copy sent in on the 26th of May - - - -
Mike McCabe's maps were gorgeous. Shame they were short on lines and big on intuition. Lost a few at Lake street and West River road, lost some more at 100 and Excelsior. The few that did make it were treated to historical tours through a bit of the University.
Harald said "Hey, it was like you knew my driving route when I was a slim and innocent University student. We even passed by my old bike parking spot at the U".
OK, so I made some of that up, anyway. (Yup - I said it ~hn)
Bridge and city views, high speed sane lane cruising, big sweeping right hand turns, a little regroup just off excelsior avenue and a leisurely stroll around lake Harriet to the Pop stop on 53rd and Lyndale.
Hey everyone made it after all. A zippy tour through TangleTown and up to the once tallest man made natural point in Minneapolis.
Stanley, Mikes’ dog showed up for a tummy rub; Smoker got to visit his boyhood home, and all is right with the world once again.
Cheers, Mike McCabe

2008.05.24 Cindy's Bottoms Up in Eau Galle. RC: PaulM
When no road captain showed up by noon Paul took charge and doodled up a map sure to delight any twisty road rider and most 'normal' riders.
Turned out to be a really good route according to the three new members that were in the group. Wide sweeping turns, couple of tight corners and lots of interesting scenery got us to Cindy's Bottoms Up ready for food and beverage. There was even a 'rest stop' near El Paso much to the relief of some of the riders.
By 6 it was time to head to Boat Drink's in Prescott for a few jumbo shrimp. About 8 members showed up for the shrimp and I heard a couple others stopped at No Name

2008.05.28 Clover Leaf Bar, Newport RC: RichardH
A nice meandering ride along the Mississippi on East River Road, on to Shepard Road and then Hwy 61 for the final run into Newport. With everyone parking in the back of the Clover Leaf a few late comers had to wander around a bit before finding the destination.
Bike count tally was 55 bikes and 58 sign-in's. With this large crowd it's good that most decided to enjoy the crisp night on the outside instead of squeezing into the limited inside space. Good food and conversation kept many in the lot until well after dark. By 10 peace was restored and the cleanup crew finally got a rest break.

2008.05.31 Pickle Factory, Pepin WI RC: MikeG
Sticking to the big slabs we headed out 94 to catch 61 south through Prescott and into a short rest stop at the Nauti Hawg in Diamond Bluff. A little refreshment on the newly overhauled deck overlooking the river made for a relaxing stop. Back on the road again we stayed on 35 until we entered Pepin and took the river side street to the Pickle Factory.
The food was good, service good, refreshments good. That made for a good time for pretty much everyone.
Wasn't long before word got out that the weather wasn't looking good back up in the Minneapolis area and a number of people sprinted back north. Others waited around a bit more until we could see the storm clouds.
A couple of us took the round-about way into Prescott for shrimp (who-would-a-thought) - We missed the earlier group because of a 'where does this road go' moment; a quick stop to regroup; refreshment; back-track.
After feasting on the shrimp Boat Drinks we watched the as the weather came our way and the locals kept insisting that there was hail on the way and the bikes would get beat up. After thinking about this for a minute, contemplating running the bikes up and under the overhang, we opted to order another round instead. What we got was a rain shower lasting but a few minutes and ending with a really beautiful, brilliant rainbow over the railroad tracks. Wish someone had told me I left my gloves on the bike...
Checking the TV weather showed the cities getting hit hard so waiting a bit longer seemed to be in order. We had been informed there was a party going on at MikeG's but seeing what looked to be a clear slot that seemed to point towards home we sprinted on out.
Everything was going real good, no rain, the bad stuff off to the east and the west still looking good. I was feeling pretty good as I entered 94 off of 61. But as all good things this too came to an end in just a couple of miles - just past Snelling the rain came down hard but only lasted until the river. Just enough to wet the pants bottoms. Things were clear again until Golden Valley where there must have been one bad dumping of rain as the road spray was pretty bad from 55 to 81.
That's it from my perspective - Anyone else got a story?

2008.06.04 Sucker Creek / Snail Lake RC:MikeMcC.
"Tornado" tried to get the group rousted from their cozy benches for the 6:30 pm departure - 6:52 pm came around and they were off. With renewed enthusiasm we jiggled our way around Lake Johanna, twisted slowly through St. Paul's drinking water lakes to the south end of Sucker creek, entered North Oaks (wouldn't it be nice) through the back door and reunited with Scott P and Mike (recently engaged... Yippee) who blew by Co. Rd. D. after the corner marker skedaddled a little early. Corner Markers need to watch out for that Tail Gunner before departing next time.
The map and corner markers did an excellent job leading us to the pavilion - But some of our crew had their own idea and ended up at the lower level nearer the lake.
"No worries" said Dave, Steve and Harald. "We know a shortcut" and with that said up the grassy knoll they rode or 'Zoomed'. Once reunited with the other 51 of us we all had a good chin wag.
Here's a Shout out to Becky and newbie member Jean.
Respectfully submitted Mike "Tornado" McCabe
<< Thanks Mike - Below is the earlier stuff scribbled on Monday and Thursday >>
Be there for the action... What goes on there stays there

The above comments were entered a couple of days before the map came out - how's that for a guess...
The ride did go to the Snail Lake pavilion and as anyone that had seen the map can tell you it was a good thing to follow the leader.
Someone that followed the leader will have to chime in with the ride details.
Mike has been pretty good in the past with sending in a few words...
Going around Snail Lake is always a nice relaxing ride.
Our official bike counter came up with a count of 57. That's a really good showing and there were no reports of anyone getting lost or left behind.
The usual tire kicking and standing around kept everyone engaged until a bit after dark at which time a large number of members invaded the nearby Green Mill. There they took over enough tables on the outside patio to seat 20+. Quite a crew to feed and serve but the staff handled it quite nicely. After everyone was feed the manager was kind enough to provide 2 extra pitchers of brew - on the house. Now that's a nice touch.
To the few of you that believed the weather man's rain predictions - not a drop until well after midnight...
You need to there for the action... You'll never know if you don't show up.

2008.06.07 1st 'Scarfy out of money' Run RC: PaulM
<This ride report composed by the gang on the ride while relaxing on Shari's deck overlooking the river. See - it can be done>
Scarfy gave up the ride today so I led the ride to Shari's Chippewa Club in Durand, WI. Paul never lead a ride where we had a P stop and went on Cty P.
It's all different from here on out. Interesting watching the 'Milo Pass' by Davey resulting in bumping into MarkE.
Very, very lucky that only Davey's saddlebag was injured.
Covered some new ground - went on Sunny Brook Road. Went on Cty K. We went on 110 & finally made it to SS.
Here comes Harald with 2 mitts full of beer. - Vern is such a good tipper.
Enough sitting around -
Had to go on Cty P again.
What's a Paul ride without P'ing or riding on County Road P.
-----
After finishing a long discussion on 'sore nipples' or something along those lines it was a straight shot up 10 for most of us
- one or two riders running for other, more interesting routes.
The big 'surprise' was the stop at Boat Drinks for big shrimp. (Ya, sure)
Here we found out about a gathering at new members Yvonne & Mark's place. Mark wasn't going to let a little bumper-bike activity keep him from having fun - it could be called a survival celebration?. It was a good day...

2008.06.11 Junction non-rain non-ride RC?: 'Smoker'
Even with no map to follow there were 15 hardy soles that signed in at the destination. The rain was light and on-off for most of the evening but no one got soaked, in fact some didn't get more than a couple of drops on their person. Twice as many people as bikes. Strange. I'm sure that this will be rated as the shortest non-ride ride of the year. A good reason to show up for the start.
There were plenty of yak's and yuck's during the on and off again rain slipping around us with the band providing background music.
The 'sore nipple' discussion that started at Shari's last Saturday was again brought up and the topic is closed.
Finished off by listening to the band while some of the gang did clean-up. We then headed out into the night.
< There was talk of a ride report coming but I have not seen it >

2008.06.14 Viking AMCA Show/Swap meet RC: RogerR
36 riders made the ride to the Viking AMCA Show at the MN State Fairgrounds.
Lots of vintage restored and unrestored bikes to look at with lots of really interesting stuff inside. A couple of our own got a photo shoot with the 'Hippie Biker Chicks'
Soon afterwards bikers scattered to Baldwin for a stop at Klinkers Korner, Boat Drinks in Prescott for Shrimp or just headed on down the road...

2008.06.15 Sunday around noon XXXII Blind Lizard Rally - 2008
Vintage Motorcycles and Bicycles & lots of interesting people.
If you have to ask where, stay home and polish your Harley... (psssst... keep this to yourself - Nicolet Island)
Bikes, bikes and more sidecar rige & scooters. From before the 1900's to Segways. Scooters overloaded with lights and flame throwing strokers. Restored bikes and running originals; Way too much to describe in words - see the photo page and enjoy. You've got around 400 pictures to go through - It's OK if you wait for a ran day or until winter??.

2008.06.18 Boat Drinks, Prescott, WI RC: SamF
Don't go eating dinner before the ride - hold out for a half dozen fantastic Shrimp & Oysters at Boat Drinks.
Your right, eagle eyes - no oysters pictured... click it.
Sam wisely choose to forego the original Hwy 55 route over the Hastings bridge and instead took us down 61 with a great side trip up Bailey Road, Military Road and wound us around great scenery before returning to 61.
The 'official' bike counters tallied up 62 bikes and it's likely there were a few more before the night was out. Lots of shrimp were devoured - No one kept a count. Too bad the Oysters were sold out before we arrived.
We packed the place but didn't quite squeeze out the locals, probably because most of us stayed outside. A little dancing and a lot of yakking took up the rest of the evening. The brake screeching train also came through.
Around dark the gangs started forming with some heading home, others jumped over to the Monkey Bar (No Name), another 5 twisted and turned on the dark roads into the Gray Cloud Island area. You should have seen the moon just as it was sitting on the horizon. It was the size of a big fist held at arms length, rusty red and sitting right on top of the waters of Moore Lake.

2008.06.21 Great Circle Loop-De-Do Tour RC: LaneA
Nice tour going counter clockwise from 94 to north on Lexington then right on 96 into White Bear Lake. Up 61 into Hugo and finally making it to 22 west (Viking Blvd). This is one of the better cruising roads near the city. When we hit 47 it was back into the northern suburbs via Anoka with the final stop at Lane's near Champlain.
Lane and Tina brought out lots of casadias with the fixin's and then opened the fridge to the gang. I believe the rider count finally topped out in the 30's by the end of the afternoon. With everyone full and primed a number of people headed over to Rags for some more partying. Thanks to Lane and Tina for hosting another great ride.

2008.06.25 Joe & Stan's in St. Paul RC: Scarfy
Scarfy was flying the flag on the back of his sportster as he cruised on down to Black Dog Road and by the river into St Paul. Despite some corner markers saying they had to wait 10 minutes (probably more like 4) there was a large turn out when they finally reached Joe & Stan's.

2008.06.28 B-Wells in Frontenac, MN RC: MarkE
First time Road Captain MarkE got us out of town as fast as he could and somehow managed to wiggle between the cloud bursts. There were a number of times where it did look like we would be getting dumped on but we always seemed to be about 5 minutes behind the rain.
While the people that put on rain suits didn't need them for rain protection they were welcome to ward off the chill from the wind that seemed to have come straight off of the ice-cold peaks of the Rockies - Bone chilling.
By the time we were riding on CR2 & CR3 the wind was at our backs and pulling into Frontenac left us with only a light breeze.
Some of the group headed over to the Whistle Stop while others enjoyed to food at B-Wells. Both were very good.
A couple of us headed back to Red Wing to enjoy the view of the birds soaring on the 'big hill' (aka Memorial Park - Sorin’s Bluff) after which we just had to stop at Boat Drinks in Prescott for the required shrimp & a big can of suds.
After the shrimp were inhaled it was time to blast off to Newport to say congratulations to newly weds Mike & Karen.

2008.06.28 Karen & Mike's Wedding at
Schaars Bluff & Reception in Newport
Heard tell it was exciting at Schaar's Bluff - wondering if a storm was going to sweep in and blow everyone and everything away. Obviously everything turned out really well.
Our own Reverend Dave 'tied their knot'. I hear the gang kept their collective mouths in check during that 'let them speak now...' part.
Hard to believe so many of the WBMC members have clothes other than for riding and can also clean up quite nicely when there is a special event.

2008.07.01 Question: If the tail gunner sees people/club riders deviating from the ride route what should they do? [MMcC]
Answer: The tail gunner has a responsibility to the club, its participants, and corner markers. Once people deviate from the ride they are not riding with the club and are on their own. Corner markers are usually in an increased risk area and should not be left out to dry or to decide "How long should I wait". They should be assured that the tail gunner will be coming very soon. The greater good of the many outweighs that of a few lost souls. What do you think? Send the WebMaster your response

2008.07.02 Cabin on the river for 60th Bday RC: DaveT
Dave was on vacation at the cabin on the St. Croix near Prescott so who can blame him for not wanting to come on back just to lead the ride. Someone else lead and as much as I would have liked to be on the ride I just couldn't see going 'straight there' on highway 94 & 61. Three of us took off one way to find some twisty roads, another 3 headed the other way to find zig-zag roads while the great majority cruised on down the big slab. Life's too short as it is to be going in straight lines.
~hn Besides, I had to stop at our new sponsor, Leather & Lace in Afton to get pictures for their ad - and sit on the porch. Really...
Going through Prescott also means stopping for at least a couple of big shrimps and oysters. Is it just me... or do others feel the same way?
The many people that braved the dirt road leading down to Dave's cabin were greeted by grills ready to burn the burgers and dogs Dave was so kind to supply. Not sure who did the cooking but I heard no complaints about the food and fixings - or the pie with whipped cream latter.
It was quite a sight seeing all those bikes lined up in the wilderness setting. Steep hill going up on one side and a steep hill going down to the river on the other. With bikes lined up on the uphill and down hill sides there wasn't room for a car to get near the cabin. See the pics.
If you haven't had a chance to navigate the very, very long driveway (OK - it's a dirt road) and the kind of steep hill with nothing but some trees to stop you from crashing right into the river, on the right, if you go outside of the 8 foot dirt strip known as the driveway you've missed some great low speed maneuvering that would get you prepared for some way out west Forest Service roads and the very narrow mountain twisters.
Since no one fell down on the way it was time to see if someone could give us a laugh on the steps down to the great river overlook or by falling into the river. Now don't get me wrong - I don't want to see anyone hurt but...
Anyway there was plenty of space to sit by the river and splash in the water or just watch the river flow by.
A few of us stayed around late enough to see some fireworks displays from across the river.
It was half past 10 before the last of us threaded our way back up the hill for a quick trip back to the cities.
From the 50 that were able to scribble their names on the sign in sheet, and I'm sure many more, Happy Birthday Dave - We wish you have many more.
Oh Ya, and thanks for inviting and hosting the WBMC gang... oops - make that the WBMC - order of the socially inept.
See what you get when no one turns in a ride report... ramblings... and only one persons view.

2008.07.05 Mike & Karen's place via New Trier RC:Mike
Nice bright sunny day for the trip through Farmington, rest & potty stop in New Trier then on to Hastings and back up to Newport. Karen had the grill full of hot dogs ready to feed the hungry gang that rolled in.
Along with the dogs there was plenty of salads and all the other stuff that makes for a great gathering,

Hate to mention it people but have you noticed that in less than 80 days the 'official' WBMC rides will end (but not the riding for fun). Those that want that 20 ride patch keep an eye on the calendar.

2008.07.09 Hope Glen Farm, Cottage Grove RC:TonyB
TonyB got the four dozen or so bikers down to the farm with only one pee stop by the river in St. Paul
As the rowdy bikers rolled on down the dirt road the animals must have scattered as there were none to be seen (other than the dog). With only one 'fall down' on the dirt (very minor) the crew was greeted with a table containing lots and lots of food ready to be devoured.
Michael and Paula had plenty of king sized dogs, brats, buns and all that goes with it - all ready to grab & eat.
What a nice way to enjoy such a nice destination.
The milling around lasted until well after dark when the last rumble subsided - it was all quiet on the farm again. (You do know that clicking on most small pictures bring up larger images)

2008.07.12 Drifter's Bar & Grill, IGH RC: Lefty
Nice meandering route, with some dirt thrown in, along a few of the less traveled routes near our main routes.
This ride had a bit of everything including the mandatory 'turn around' and very high winds. Not a problem.
Arriving at Drifters we were greeted with a large crowd already present for the for the fund-raiser.
It only took a minute to get everyone parked and then it was off to the food and drink, both plentiful and reasonable for just a $5 donation.
After that most of the gang wandered around or sat on the deck looking at the boats and river flowing by.

2008.07.16 Renegades, Savage RC: MikeG.
The original road captain, KarenG, called in sick so Mike took over to get us down to Renegades.
It was great to get on the road on this very hot and steamy evening. After a slow start down Cedar we were finally able to pick up speed to blow away the sweat.
After passing over the river it was a jog east on 13 to put us on Silver Belle Road, Nicols Road and finally to mingle in with the bicycle racing crowd on Black Dog Road. The pace was sprited and most every one behaved by keeping a safe distance from the 'bikers'.
After enjoying the brief coolness of the tree lined route next to the river we got dumped back on the freeway for the final sprint to Renegades crowded parking lot.
There were lots and lots of bikes, many of them Victories, taking up every space not occupied by a car.
The potential high point was the half dozen WBMC members that had a shot at winning a new Victory just by rolling 6 die - of course each had to stop on the Victory logo in order to win. Roll 5 to pocket $1000, making 4 gets you $100 and gift certificates for the rest. It's too bad no one got into the money... or the bike.
Spent some time watching a hard core Indian rider tearing apart the primary, down to taking the clutch out. After he put it back together, in the dark no less, he was able to ride off. Others spent their time eatin' & talking.
As always there were some interesting people to spend time with and catch up. Kevin of Renegades stopped to ask how we were enjoying everything - it was Great...
I ran into Rob Lemons, someone I worked with at MTS Systems where I worked many, many moons ago. He now works for Polaris. We may have talked him into coming on a ride or two - and bring some bikes...
By dark most everyone had scattered and after 10 it was off to Mayslack's for me and Lissa to inhale some wings.
Anyone have anything interesting to add -- send it in...

Here's a note sent in by a Renegades "regular":
Those of us “regular” Renegades folks enjoyed watching the WBMC ride in. A more attractive, eclectic collection of bikes and garb I haven’t seen. While it is true, I did work with Harald many moons ago, I didn’t recognize him until I was wiping off my bike [Victory Vision - black] where he had drooled on it and recognized his voice (well, I think it was drool). [I fully deny that I was even close to drooling]
Seriously, it was great to see Harald and meet some of you and appreciate the invitation to ride with you sometime soon. It is all about the ride. See you soon. Rob Lemons
2008.07.19 Jimmy's 60th Birthday Party RC: JimH.
Jimmy celebrated part of his 60th Birthday with the WBMC at Rag's place in NowThen, MN. Yes, it is a real town with paved streets, gas station and - well that's all.
The ride strolled up 47 into the dark clouds which at first seemed very far off. At the SmokeHouse 'rest stop' the dark skies were much closer and by the time we left we had a sprinkle or two hitting the windshields and faces.
Instead of heading further north we headed west on 5 but the weather gods were only slightly amused by our feeble attempt to evade the rain and let it dump on us. At the next stop sign, at 22, the whole gang stopped on the road and scrambled into the rain gear. A yell to a car passing let us know that the Mystic Inn was just up the road and it was open. Away we shot back north into the heart of the storm. It was only minutes and the group was scrambling into the dryness of the Mystic Inn.
Sloppy Joe's had already been cooked up for the local regular patrons but the WBMC was invited to 'dig in' - which they did with no concern of being called 'piggy'.
The rain abated within a reasonable time and it was off to cover the rest of the ground to NowThen... When arriving at Rag's place he already had the burgers and dogs cooked up - having stood out in the driving rain; braving the tornado that appeared just over the hill - so the WBMC crowd could be fed on arrival. (I'm pretty sure that's what Al told me).
The rest of the afternoon and evening was dry and not too warm. Jimmy go presents; a book of events in the year he was born, bike mags, couple of strange things and trinkets & bobbles to keep him occupied.
Of course it wouldn't be a Jimmy party without burning lots of wood (and whatever else burns) to make a large fire or two. Jimmy was in good form piling it on.
By dark the fire was down to a reasonable level and the remaining souls gathered around to enjoy the evening.
Hopefully everyone made it home OK. I saw plenty of our finest on the road, 3 had cars pulled over. It was a good night to be keeping at or just a bit under the limit.

2008.07.23 The Fabulous Putman Gardens RC: AndyP.
Once around the capitol; cross the river by Raspberry Island; Plato to Yacht Club Road and on to Lillydale for a run along river; hair pin it back on Sibley to get into some St. Paul twisties; lastly traverse the treacherous unpaved wilderness road into the Famous Putnam Gardens domain. (a full 1/4 block of white-knuckle terror for some of the riders. ok - just kidding...)
As every year the garden has again taken on a new look.
You would think it has spread out into the neighbors lots when you take the walk along the paths that wind through the many islands to well groomed plants with the trinkets, bobbles and interesting items scattered in between. With plenty of chairs and benches along the paths it's a great place to sit and ponder this and that.
Brats, beans and chips kept the masses occupied.
The fire kept others occupied until late into the night.

2008.07.26 The twisted roads to Urne RC: TonyO.
It was a fairly early start to get the 18 or so riders through the dangerous part of the ride out 94 to WI exit 4. After a quick gas to get everyone topped off it was a non-stop run on some of Wisconsin's finely maintained roads where the curves are the major part of the riding fun.
From exit 4 it was N to U to Coulee Trail to intercept SS. A short ways south on SS and a left with a jog to start the run east on Town Hall Road. Then it's a long run east on J, slicing through the Kinnickinnic River State Fishery Area, after which we turned south on W to again find our way to J. Aw heck - get the route sheet and ride it or pop over to the photos page to see the ride pictures.
It was an enjoyable ride with riders that enjoyed the ride. Don't shortcut it to 10 as you'll miss the great run on Z.
After Durand we were into the final 10 mile run to verify that Urne was where we had left it on our previous visit. Food and drink topped off this 100 miles of fine riding.
Going back was a little more exciting for the 9 that followed TonyO on to more great roads. Heading into Pepin to gas up found Mark just a mile short when his engine sputtered to a halt. Not a problem as Mark had a pop bottle and Harald had easy access to his fuel line so as to provide a pint of go-go juice to get him running. Wasn't but a 3 minute pit stop just like at the races.
Continuing on did bring us to a junction that had dirt roads running off to both the left and right. A rider or two would have rather turned around and find a paved path but we continued on to the right to traverse the mile or two of hard packed earth. Everyone took it, mostly, in stride as the scenery was great. A couple of people needed to go really slow and my waiting for them put us way back. This was one of those time that the pack didn't bother to wait an extra minute at the next major direction change so we would be caught up. Bad... but I managed to bring my addle brain back on line and get back to Boat Drinks just minutes after the main pack.
Shrimp, pizza and oysters energized and enhanced the discussion of the ride and made for a perfect ending to one of the most perfect riding days this year.
Evening had everyone scattering with some having another helping of shrimp at their place; a party to go to in Forest Lake; another get together in Hinckley...
After and interesting set of traffic tie-ups and taking a shortcut down an embankment to get off the highway and onto the just missed exit I figured it's home time...

2008.07.28 Fantastic up north run-about by Lissa
Starting from the Y-Store (Ledge Liquors) at the intersection of Hwy 169 and Hwy 1 to Cook then Hwy 77 to Lake Vermilion.
Heading North, just as you get out of Tower, the scenery changes. Big, red trees and wilderness, with a lake here and there for effect. Really peaceful. I looked up and saw a big bald eagle soaring along.
Continue North to Ely. Take a right on Hwy #1. GO! Nice road.
You know the one.
Lotsa turns, good pavement. Gotta make a stop in Finland. Little bar named "our place" (memorable name!). Interesting items in the bar. The racks from two wrestling deer that died during a fight long ago and couldn't be separated lies near the door.
Continued on to Silver Bay - Not a lot going on in Silver Bay. Headed south on 61 to Two Harbors - Now this town is happening! I typically pit stop at the 'Landing' right on 61 but needed cash so I took a left at the DQ and headed downtown.
Found a lovely little Irish Saloon!
It was newly opened. The owners had bought it and spent over four years designing and creating it. Great atmosphere! Nice floor! (you know how I feel about a nice wood floor, yes?).
It's called Dunnigans Pub & Grub.
There is also a lovely little antique store just across the street.
Back on the road, as you pass the cemetery on the left, toss a wink or blow a kiss to Myrtle and Ray.
Just out of town I jumped off the highway to the old "scenic 61". Gotta stop at Russ Kendalls fish house for some smoked trout, either sugar cured or plain. Very Tasty! Nice ride down 61 to Duluth. Snuck up the hill in Duluth and caught Hwy 4 north to Biwabik then left on 135 at Aurora back up to Tower.
Stopped in at the Good Ol' Days Bar and Grill in Tower. A very nice couple, Randy & Carol, own the place and were happy to sponsor the West Bank Motorcycle Club. If you’re up that way be sure to stop in and visit them! Let them know that we appreciate their sponsorship.
It was a beautiful day, just had to share it. Lissa

2008.07.30 River Road to Scott & Sue's RC: ScottP.
It was a hot night and the ride along the river was cooling.
First running down West River Parkway and then up Mississippi River Blvd, through the U of M. the pack stayed together pretty well with most everyone behaving.
Arriving at Scotts we find the big tree has been replaced with more seating. Scott was kind enough to do the pooper-scooper duties, probably to keep the doggy-doo from ending up in the house.
Plenty of chips and dip with some 'this-must-be-lobster' chunks available to those fast enough to get to the bag before me. Also plenty of liquids to keep everyone cool.
The evening was topped off with a trip to Mayslack's for wings and then back to Scott's to unwind and relax.
Thanks Sue and Scott for inviting us to you residence.

2008.08.02 The Bar in Hastings RC: Scarfy.
Someone take pic's and do a ride report otherwise you get this...
Scarfy side stepped most of Hiawatha, with it's usually tied up traffic and lousy traffic light sequences (which may be improving), to get us out to the Mendota Bridge for a speedy start of today's ride to Hastings.
We ran down 55, past the refinery which today was not as stinky as usual. Traffic was really light and it was
much cooler than the weather man had indicated.
Taking the scenic cutoff that passes near the park containing
Schaars Bluff we got our Saturday shower from the gigantic
sprinkler dropping lots of water onto the middle of the road - Really, really king sized drops.
Sliding around Hastings on the south side we found the brand new, still smooth blacktop for the first part of
Ravenna Trail (54) running through the Mississippi National Recreation Area towards the reservation. This is another one of those roads where I'd like to be a passenger so I could take in the wonderful scenery.
Today there would be no
stopping at Treasure Island. At 68 we swung westward to merge into North 361 which would get us back into
Hastings.
The Bar is on the east side, right next to Vermillion Falls Park which encompasses a real falls that still rumbles next to the Ol' Mill. This fall gets especially active after a heavy rain and is worth a stop and look-see.
Food and drink at The Bar and the outside seating satisfied everyone for awhile. For desert Scarfy
provided an escorted walk, with accompanying narrative, to the falls for those interested.
It's a cooling feeling watching the waters tumbling over the rocks. Makes you want to scramble down the rocks to sit under the tumbling waters.
Before the last of the late comers and stragglers showed up most of the crowd scattered for home, other
interesting places or over to Boat Drinks in Prescott for a helping of Shrimp and Oysters.

2008.08.06 Sturges Park in Buffalo, MN RC: MikeR
For those that didn't make it to Sturgis, SD this was a pretty good ride. I was in one of the lost groups that tried to follow SteveF home - that was an oops. It was Z-man, with Carla reading the map, that got us back on the right track back towards the WaterTown pop stop. We had to stop at a gas station on 6 to get our bearing and it was at this point me, son Jason and Mr. Bumper Car (aka Davey) got behind when Jason's bike refused to start. After spinning the starter for an extended period of time failed to start the beast the Ol' Man (that's me) had to give him a push to get it to fire. The kid didn't believe it would work - he may listen a bit more now... Just maybe.
I got the map out and our threesome headed west. On hitting the gravel it was tempting to keep going but I decided to follow the map so the kid couldn't say it was my fault his painted rims got dinged up by rocks.
We finally got to Watertown where we encountered the RC with the first part of the group just as they were about to continue on. And continue on they did with Mikey maintaining a spirited clip right on into Buffalo.
Sturges park was quite empty so we probably didn't scare off too many of the locals. The gang settled into the shelter and the usual mingling in the parking lot until a bit after dark. A bunch headed back into town for Wings at Mayslacks while I joined the bunch going to Hanover for some very good food at the River Inn. This is another of the 'must stop' places when in this area.

2008.08.09 TrailSide Bar, Irvington, WI RC: PaulM
The ride quickly got to WI Exit 4 where we headed onto some roads we had not traveled before. From the usual N to U we then got on to -- Oh heck; check out the map on the photo's page for this ride and you'll see it all. Don't let the straight lines fool you, There are lots of twists, turns, ups and downs through tree lined lanes. I made the pre-ride with Paul yesterday and today it was just as fun and interesting (just not as fast).
A very nice twisty run to Irvington, WI. to find that the TrailSide had gone to reduced hours, not to open until 4. We have a short discussion, sign in and head up the road to the River Side Inn in Menomonie...
With Milo following the GPS we get away with only one wrong turn.
River Side has a large deck overlooking the green lake; good food and drink with a great view, plenty of seating and a happy crowd - Great time.
We are not going to get into the problems I had with my 1979 BMW R100RT. Hey - it's almost 30 years old and still going strong - most of the time. Of course if I wasn't being too lazy (forgetful actually) to change the alternator brushes last fall or this spring everything would have been good. I'm glad I've got a very large battery.
Despite the charging problems I came out OK as I finally got home at about 1am with lights still bright.
Thanks so much to those that stayed to make sure I was OK and the great help from RonG in getting me back to my bike with a charged battery. This day would make for a long, rambling, interesting story...
I heard everyone headed to their favorite places after the TrailSide or River Side and ended up having a great day.
Thanks also to Yvonne for letting me ride her bike back to Ron's. To Mark for taking Yvonne back to Ron's - like he'd dare let her ride back cuddled up to me. To Vern for sticking around for moral support.
I was glad to see the others went on their way as there was nothing they could do to get the battery charged - I know they would have provided more help if I needed it.
Oh, why not also thank Paul for getting to Boat Drinks to do what I wish I would have been doing... someone should write it up as it actually unfolded just for laughs.

2008.08.13 Marine on St. Croix, MN RC: DebraB
A sprinkle here, a sprinkle there, some got sprinkled; some got wet early in the afternoon. By evening it was great riding weather for a ride to Marine on St. Croix.
Most of the large crowd followed Deb but some ended up just in front of the road captain - how odd.
The ride out 36 where we caught sight of 4 or 5 balloons drifting with the breeze. Hanging a left on Cty 36 got us to the lanes we like to run. On one of the sections there were about 8 turkeys (I think they were turkeys) lurking just off the road - probably waiting for Paul to come by.
The last section is the tree lined lanes of CR 4 that contains real curves along with a tunnel for added effect.
Over 47 bikes/bikers ended up at the Brookside to sing Happy Birthday to Deb. Thanks Deb for a great ride.
Gotta have one of those ice cream cones next time...

Received an actual Ride Report for Sturges Park:
Many Twisty roads, all leading to Liquor store; Niesen's in Watertown! then onto Sturges Park on some more excellent roads in Buffalo, MN. Good times - Great Fun.
MikeR.
I just wanted to thank all the members of the WBMC for Riding Safely and having a great year riding together. Signed: Doc
P.S. Don't forget to give a thanks to Harald for the great Pictures.
Aw Shucks - 'tis something to keep me out of trouble. Wish I could do more but I'm still on dialup. thanks Doc

2008.08.16 Hell Hole Lake Gathering & Party RC: Milo
WoW!!! The weather was perfect; low humidity and brilliant sunshine. When I got to the Junction Carla & Z were already there. Shortly afterwards Dwayne Eck showed up, then Big Red. We took all back roads into Taylors Falls where we ate breakfast and then continued our journey to Hell Hole Lake. Again, all via back roads.
We found some awesome roads with twists and curves.
Thanks to all who went on the designated ride.
As we pulled into Pat's Hell Hole Lake hide-away we could see that the party had already begun.
Thanks Pat for allowing the WBMC to share your hidden treasure of a hideaway. We look forward to next year and many years to come. Hell Hole RC: Milo
What a weekend - what a turnout. Great on both counts.
Milo did the 'official' ride with a scenic twist; Paul took the lead with Yvonne, Mark, Brenda and me leaving at 9:30. Others made it up earlier or on Friday. More showed up later and left before the real fun started on Saturday night. This was one of the best turnouts I can remember.
Pat was there to greet everyone and make them feel welcome. One of Pat's sons, Dan took on the cooking duties while I spent some quiet time on the lake paddling the canoe back and forth getting nowhere fast.
Plenty of food was brought by club members, bushels of corn cooked up by Pat and lots of brats, hamburgers, chicken breasts and special orders cooked up by Dan.
Swimming, water slide, fishing, foosball table, canoe's and paddle boats along with non-stop music kept everyone occupied. Former WBMC member Carol Fischer showed up after being absent for 25 years. Al showed up with infant son - knife strapped to his hip.
Along with the liquids being passed around some had so much fun they had to turn in early. Others got on to one of Pat's three hay rides. All of them packed to overflowing. Of course many of those turning in early also got up for another round of levity when the full moon hit it's peak brightness. Lots of stories there.
After escorting Paul to his tent instead of letting him wonder into the woods I made one more round of the area, secured the fire and then headed into the garage where I had set up my sleep stuff next to my bike.
After my 2:15am turn-in I only heard a slam or two from the outhouse door and then the next thing I know it's 7am on another beautiful morning. There was Pat in bathrobe making the rounds to check for unclaimed bodies and informing me that coffee will be on in just a moment.
Got a few pictures of the early morning calm turning the lake into a king sized mirror reflecting the pines on the other side of the lake. After coffee it was time to get busy on the keg - wouldn't want to lift a heavy keg...
Things moved really slow but noon finally rolled around and most everyone was already up and packed; some had already headed out. One last swim for an hour or two with the girls and it was time to pack up and leave Pat in peace. Thanks for everything Pat.
Lots of pictures to scan for embarrassing stuff. It will be a while before they are all up.
I'll be putting up more as I get time so check the photo's page every week or so.

2008.08.20 Ken's place - Big Lake Carnelian RC: KenM
Very nice ride up 5, around Stillwater, where we had a breathtaking view of the sunset as we neared what some have called the 'Hell Hole Lake in the city'.
[ If your thinking that's a bad thing you'd better read the below report and look at the pictures of both places - Ken has a really nice shack on a really nice lake ]
That last downhill slide into Kens place seemed just as tricky for some even though there is now blacktop in the driveway - real slow going but no one took a tumble.
Deb had dozens of dogs with the fixings on the table ready for the tribe to dig in. After the feeding some managed to get on the pontoon for a ride around the lake. When someone decided they needed to override the operator and put the throttle to idle the motor died and it took a bit of time to get it started again. If they had paddles they would probably gotten back sooner.
After a few bottle rockets and a blazing fire the crowd settled down for friendly conversation, next weeks ride guessing and tonight's going home planning.
I would guess there were at least 3 deer sightings - I had one hop across the road about 20 yards in front of me.
Still it was a great ride home - Nice bright red moon.
Ken & Deb - Thank you for inviting the West Bank Motorcycle Club to your place.

2008.08.23 Plum City via the long, fun way RC: TonyO
Great route with plenty of curves and scenery. Tony kept a pace where there was time to enjoy the sights and sounds. One of the roads (I think it was 690th) was new to most of us and will have to be run more often. After this the ever popular 'O' got us down to 35.
There were two very minor 'drop-sies', neither one causing more than a scratch or pain chip. You gotta pay attention marking corners; a slipped foot puts you down.
A quick rest stop before Diamond Bluff allowed the tail gunner to catch up and it was off on to AA for more fun.
Arriving at Plum City we chowed down on plenty of good food next to the babbling stream. For desert it was down to the trout pond to see what the trout were up to.
On the way back a couple of us stopped at the Gas Lite to see what was going on with the Biker Memorial Run; Slow races, weinie bite, vendors with great Bloody Mary mix, some fine mustard for snacks, sex toys & xxx.
As the sun headed for the horizon it was off to Prescott for the usual shrimp and oyster feast. Great Ride Tony...

Paul and Michelle’s first rides with the WBMC
Greetings everyone! I'm one of the noobs to the club this summer.
My name is Paul Zuest (pronounced zest). Anyone that hasn't met me yet or those who have and are trying to place me I'm the guy with the black Kid Rock hat (the one I swam with at Hell Hole! hahaa) and I ride the flat black ‘07 softail with sissy bar and mini-apes.
Well, so far riding with the West Bank crew has been great, Everyone seems very cool! The first time I actually met a few WBMC'rs was at the HogFeed at the joint in July when we met Holly there. We met Mike & Karen, Scarfy, Scott & Sue, Traci and several others. Had fun there that day. The following Wednesday I followed the ride to Scott's house and met even more people. I can't remember how we got there or what streets and roads we took or even any scenery on the way except a couple tunnels and a bridge... haha. I was so busy watching the tail light of the bike in front of me and the bikes in my mirrors that I never saw anything. I was pretty effin' nervous! That was actually my first time riding with more than two other people my whole life, no kidding. I'd been ridin' around the previous two or three years alone, and years ago when I was on a couple other smaller bikes in Colorado I never rode with a group either. Looks like that's over, hopefully, since I found this great group.
Our next ride, and the first that Michelle and I went on together with the group, was Scarfy's ride to his hometown of Hastings where we ended up at 'The Bar'. We barely made that ride; and I mean barely by seconds. We were waiting at my house for my daughters mom to pick her up to take her back to Missouri after her summer visit and she was supposed to be there at 11 o'clock. She was an hour late. So after they left we jumped on the bike and hauled ass to get to the Junction and we literally rolled past the front door of the Whiskey right as the tailgunner Mark was letting out his clutch! hahaaa! So we just kept on goin’ around the corner where we joined up with everyone else.
I almost didn't make it all the way to The Bar- the last ten or fifteen miles of the ride I spent looking back and forth at the gas gauge, knowing I was on fumes since we didn't get a chance to gas up before we got to the Junction. I worked my way to the front of the pack and pulled up alongside Scarfy pointing at my tank and shrugging my shoulders.
He did a double take at me like 'Where'd you come from?!" hahaa. He holds up his fingers- "Five minutes...?" I shrugged back, "Ok.. We'll see!"
We did manage to make it to the bar, and I went and hit the station while everyone else was settling into the patio to order brews.
Later on after some of us ate, we went for a walk thru the park across the street to checkout the waterfall. That was pretty neat, we could see big fish down in the stream. After most everyone had left we followed Scarfy over to Boat Drinks for a bit. Had some jumbo shrimps and a brew or two and then headed home for the night.
Michelle and I have enjoyed every ride we've been on, everyone is great and we hope to be around for many, many more to come! Signed: Paul Zuest

2008.08.27 PR's Place River Falls, WI RC: Milo Ride Report by Milo:
WoW!! - What an event!. The WBMC traveled to a new sponsor, PR's Place, where we were greeted by PR's staff and other PR's sponsors. You did notice the big "Welcome West Bank Motorcycle Club" banner below the PR's sign?
A Fritz Motorsports Winged Outlaw sat outside and inside we saw some Gilby's Custom Motorcycles.
Many members won prizes. To mention a few:
Dave & Sandy won a pair of tickets to FireHouse.
I (Milo) won a pair tickets to Days of the New.
Loretta landed the grand prize of $72 cash.
Many others got the t-shirts and hats.
Many members left late and were greeted by Mother Natures very best of pouring, wind driven rain and spectacular cloud-to-ground and cloud-to-cloud lightening. My God, did it rain - close to 3 inches fell.
Loretta and I pulled off in Woodbury [something to do with Loretta screaming and beating him on the back] and got under a canopy at a SA station where the lights at the store went out. We were stranded for about an hour and a half. Uhmm- By the way Harald - I couldn't imagine how you kept going because that was a torrential downpour. We left Woodbury and drove about 5 more miles and had to pull over again at White Bear & 94 at McDonald's and waited out the storm. [ Harald> The harder it rains the faster I go - Something I picked up from KevinM who goes faster... ]
[ Harald> OK, it's really Experience, common sense and knowing your limits. Riding in the driving rain, 50mph crosswinds & violent lighting makes you feel so alive. When you reach home with your bike and body intact it feels so good... ]
We walked into the house at 1:20am - soaked to the gills. A ride to remember. [ Harald made it just after 11:30 ]
Thank you PR's - we're glad to have you as a sponsor.
Now here is a blurb I received from Mark K.
<Harald, your comments on Milo's report made me chuckle>
We left PR's (a fun place thanks for your hospitality!) and were cruisin down the road with about 5 or 6 other WestBankers behind us. When we got onto 94 the rain REALLY started coming down. I noticed everyone falling farther and farther back but just thought as usual lately that I was going too fast.
By the time we crossed the river we had lost everyone.
Jenelle was right there in my mirror so I just kept up the pace. When we made it home Jenelle pointed out it wasn't the speed that made the others fall so far back. It was the fact that they did not have helmets and rain gear like we did.
Sure makes a difference when it's a driving rain like that.
A fun ride home! I know a lot of people will not understand or even believe this next comment, but it is the absolute truth; I really love riding in the rain!
Mark Koch

2008.08.30 The BlackSmith Shop Bar & Grill RC: PaulM
Roller Coaster, tree lined roads with nothing but blue skies above the 19 riders headed up Balsam Lake way.
On the very lightly traveled roads we zipped by corner after corner after corner. One of these days I'll have to count up how many greater then 45 degree corners, 30, 20, 10 MPH curves we carve, along with how many stop signs just over the hill on a short down side surprise more than one of the riders.
Can you say Front Brake!
If you want some really good Hot Wings then head up to BlackSmith to enjoy some of the best in the area.
After some harassing I was able to get these comments:
rb> Awesome!
mk> Brilliant sunshine and awesome temperatures for the unofficial 'Last Days of Summer' riding with this great club.
cz> The weather was great! The roads were wonderful; lots of hills.
z> I remember the ride. I seen a bald eagle doing circles over a church. Trip to a cemetery while a funeral was going on. Almost another trip past the funeral. Beautiful day for a funeral. Ice cream cone. The BlackSmith Shop lounge had cold beer and great wings.
bb> Nice ride up & down. Twisting & Turning.
th> Nice roads. Will follow the group next time!
After some food and suds the riders scattered in all directions. I ended up in a group of 5 that headed back towards Osceola, which we passed through with out the usual stop, finally making a pit stop at Sal's and then a final stop at the White Bear VFW for a late supper, in the dark, on the patio overlooking the calm lake.

2008.09.03 Yarusso's bike show with pasta, bread and Giant Meat Balls RC: PatS
Pat ran us out Franklin to get over the river without getting us tied up on 94. A little of University then Pierce Butler and other roads east to finally end up on Payne.
Yarusso's would have been filled to capacity earlier this summer but with the expansion there was plenty of room for everyone even though they may have had to park in the back. There was a really big turn out tonight.
I'm pretty sure the WBMC was the largest of the groups.
There was plenty of pasta and bread for this large crowd.
Seating was ample, standing room was not crowded.
Nature displayed a nice series of red clouds at dusk and as the early darkness settled around us the bikes started firing up and leaving as if migrating birds.
Nice chilly night to add on a few extra cruising miles.

Update from the start of last nights (Wed 9/3) ride: The ambulance many of us saw as we departed The Junction had Davey in it. He opted not to go to the hospital but was a bit shaken up by the accident.
The details: Davey was stopped at a red light heading northbound, the light changed to green and a southbound car turned left in front of him. Davey T-bones the car, goes down, breaks his right saddlebag mount shears 3 bolts that attach to the front mono shock, crimps his front brake line, tears his padded pants in a few places and suffers a small cut on his right hand. A sympathetic biker grabs a trailer and helps Davey and damaged bike to his home. Murph and Mike make it to Yarusso's just in time to sign in.

2008.09.06 Kimball (kind of - almost) RC: MikeMcC
Not a bad start for a 10am leave - closer to 10:30. If you count in the coffee shop stop it would be 11:30 or so.
It was a nice ride; a round-about/back track in Chaska; a lot of consulting of the map by fearless leader at multiple corners; all 13 bikes stopping at an intersection on 15 where we were closer to New Ulm than Kimball; Lots of discussion which cumulated in a sign in and scatter.
Me and SteveF were looking forward to the meat market.
Don't know what happened to the others - heard RC and some others did head for Kimball. Vern seems to have had all kinds of 'cusions' he was to meet in Kimball.
MarkE, Paul; and myself hung out at the power station for a cool one before heading up towards ClearWater for Beef Jerky and something cold to chug.
Just after continuing I seen that my old 1979 BMW R100RT was showing her age again by not charging the battery. Paul continued on while Mark kept me company as I hot footed towards the cities via 12.
Battery and fuel was now really low so a fuel stop was necessary.
After fueling up near Montrose I took a look at the alternator and found no problem.
Changing the regulator (doesn't everyone carry spares?) didn't help.
After replacing the tank we headed east again only to have the bike sputter and die less than a mile up the road.
I quickly pulled in to the dirt side street to fume when Mark pulls up and asks if I shouldn't reconnect the fuel line <Homer Simpson Duhhh...> Yup, forgot to turn on the gas - which was lucky since with the open line I would have soaked my right leg and probably crotch.
After reconnecting the fuel line I was just about to head out when I looked at the three houses near us and saw that one had the garage door opened. Walking up to the house I noticed there was a bike in the garage - this may be my lucky day - go ring the bell.
Joe answered and I explained my plight and asked for the use of a charger. Joe had a good one and while waiting for the battery to use up his 10 amps we chatted.
Thank you very much Joe. The charge got me home.
Heading up 12 was no fun; lots of construction and traffic.
Mark followed me all the way home where we had a couple of cold ones to celebrate another victory over the electrical gremlins starting to plague that old BMW. Thanks MarkE - hope you didn't get too wet on the way home. The rain stopped about 30 minutes after you left.
Lets hear from the others on the ride. I really did enjoy the ride - how about you.
Tomorrow it will be a day of finding my charging problem or rolling out the other RT

2008.09.10 Remember 9/11 Memorial ride RC: VinniG
Looks like the torch has been passed to the younger generation. This years 9/11 ride was lead by Vinni. I'm pretty sure Vinni will hold the record as the youngest Road Captain for a long time. We had a very smooth ride following the always scenic West River Road, around Lake Nokimis and on to Doc's place via Cedar.
The hot chili Clair slaved over all afternoon was gobbled up in a surprisingly short time - I missed out.
Twilight descended quicker than the chili disappeared.
Getting the West Bankers together for a picture took even longer. After picture taking the
fire blazed as high as usual, stoked by Scarfy with some help from Jim "burn it if it ain't nailed down" H. After a loud blast, resulting in a spectacular 'fire in the sky', everyone settled into biker style conversations.
With the fire still blazing well after midnight it was hard to leave for many of us - Well, I guess it was just me & Doc keeping watch over the fire at the 1:30am dousing.
For those interested: My voltmeter was showing some 'below normal' readings; probably because of the slow speed/low rpm's. Just to play it safe I was charging the battery as a precaution. On the way home at the wee hour of 2am all was good with 14 volts showing.
A Great Night for riding & hanging out with good friends
More on Harald's recent fights with the electric gremilns:
About a month ago it was the alternator brushes that finally gave up. I knew I had that spare set with the note to replace them at the spring 2008 tune up in the tool box for a reason.
This time it turns out that the stator windings decided to finally short to the stator frame. This just does not happen very often - especially waiting for 28 years. Did I mention that the bike is a 1979 BMW R100RT. I purchased it in November 1978 and it has been a very good and trouble free ride; never leaving me stranded.
I am in contact with Robert Fleischer (aka SnowBum) who has one stator. Bob as a fantastic web site with lots of hints, kinks and tricks for BMW's. www.bmwmotorcycletech.info
If you have an older BMW AirHead then look up his web site.
With nothing to loose I 'zapped' the coils (do not do this yourself)
Blew apart 3 wires (they have called me 'Sparks' on more than one job), found the right set to re-solder and the ohmmeter indicates that we may be good to go without having to strip the stator from the other RT. The 90/6 stator was the wrong size.
Again, with nothing to loose, I'll reinstall the stator on the bike and see if we are good to go on the road again. Not for anything farther than Prescott for shrimp and cocktail.
I little more coffee; some hydration fluid and we'll get to fixin'
Hey; Hey; Hey - it's noon and the voltmeter indicates that the alternator is charging. Just in time to catch Hawaii 5-0 and then go out for a spin to see if the alternator holds up on the road.
What the heck - No Hawaii 5-0. Cosby took it over. Ride time.
3pm and the alternator kept right on charging. Only strange thing is that I read 2.5k ohms from the coils to stator frame. Oh well. Looks like I'll be able to get a few more rides in - sorry Vern...

2008.09.13 The Gas Light in Sandstone. A little dampness don't hurt us. RC: SandyK
This ride was originally my father in-law's but after figuring he would not be able to bring much fire wood or food fixins' up on his bike, he asked Chad to lead the ride a couple of days prior to leave.
Jac wanted the ride to leave The Junction and head over to Twin City Custom Cycle just north of 694 on Hwy. 61.
We were going to stop for a quick "hi", look round and then continue north on 61 pretty much all the way to Sandstone. Well, with the sky looking pretty foggy and the air thick, we pondered a quicker route and decided to shoot up I-35 from Hwy. 280.
We (all eight of us) were misted with cool light drops but that was about it all the way. We made a pee, coffee and fuel stop about half way, then continued.
Coming into Sandstone on main street, we hear a very familiar and distinct V-twin pulling out of somewhere just a few hundred feet ahead of us. Chad says "that sounds like Franz ahead of us"! After catching up, we realized it sure was him.
This now put our ride count at nine. Miles covered to sign-in: 92.5. Close enough...
Well, word was that the bartender "overslept" and this is why the bar was not open when we arrived. Jac called the owner at home and he said he would be down to open in about 20-minutes. This gave us the opportunity to "check out the scenery".
Jac pointed us in the direction of Robinson Park, which is where we would be camping overnight, if we so desired. Well, me being the type who doesn't care to camp in the rain, made for a definite decision that we would be going home to a warm (and dry) bed tonight!
We gave Lenny Jr. time to get the bar open by going to the grocery store to get some food for grilling. Lenny Sr. and Jac used to ride together back in the early 50’s.
By the time we all headed back to the
bar, it was open. Jac was right; this is the best and biggest Bloody Mary I have ever seen or tasted! (Check out the photos on the Website). Jac was also correct in that the hospitality was unmatched.
We worked the place like we owned it and that was okay with Lenny Jr. and the locals. Well, we spent most of the time out back under a couple of canopies, (we erected Jac’s vendor pop-up) chatted, ate, drank, laughed, grilled, drank, ate and well, you get the idea...
Had a great time and when it finally stopped raining, I grabbed Chad's leash (I did not injure him, as the choker was left at home on the bedpost next to the handcuffs) and told him we're saddling up! We stayed dry all the way home but it was a bit cool at times.
Pulled into the garage at 8:50. Fun, fun, fun!!!
Thanks Jac, for giving us the opportunity to mingle at The Gas Light and experience a bit of Sandstone! Sandy K.

Here is my little tid-bit for the 9/13 ride to Sandstone:
It looked damp with a chance of drizzle before the 10am leave but by the time we got rolling it was pretty dry. As we shot up 35 there was a drizzle or two but barely enough to wet the bottom of the pants and boots.
We got to the Gas Light in Sandstone but found it closed.
Jac, the original RC, came up in the van and got hold of the owner to get the place opened in short order. In the mean time we took a quick trip down to Robinson Park.
This is one beautiful park, despite the rain. Yup, we had barely gotten into the park when the drizzle turned into rain. Some of us, having been in the rain before, drove right into the shelter to protect our precious steeds.
It sure looked like this rain would not stop anytime soon.
While under the shelter the Voigt's bus came around the bend. Now what was this all about. Dozens of people scrambled out of the bus, some with coolers in hand, but none with beers for the thirsty bikers already present.
Being really good people we allowed them to share the shelter with us. After a little chatting we decided we may as well head back into town, to the Gas Light, despite the ever increasing rain. It was a nice rain, no lightning.
That Gas Light is one really nice place. When you get up there take the time to look at all of the unique items that are scattered around the bar. Don't forget to look up.
Lots of people ordered the giant Bloody Mary's with the four large shrimp while Jac was busy getting the corn, pork chops and onions on the grill. Wasn't long before the food was half done and the propane ran out.
We made do with some more libations waiting for the fuel needed to continue with cooking. Didn't take long. Eating, talking, watching the continuing rain - Great day.
Interesting cutie on a scavenger hunt provided some entertainment.
On her list: Get her toenails clipped (Chad got that one); kiss a biker? (Mickey got the peck on the cheek); Tattoo a biker (Vern got marked up; Change shirts with a biker (For some reason she picked Sandy instead of me for this - darn'it).
Most of us waited around long enough, about 6:10, for the rain to stop and the sun to peek out. My trip back was at about 5k rpm with little traffic - and, of course, no problems with my charging system.

2008.09.16 The Little Bar in White Bear Lake RC: Lissa
Hopefully this will be a start of tradition where we will be visiting each of our sponsors at least once a quarter.
A large number of West Bankers showed up at the Little Bar to par take of the $1.50 Whimpy Burgers and special $2 brews being served up on this Tuesday.
If you missed I'd have to say that you really missed it...
Michelle was fantastic in the way she kept everyone supplied with food and liquids.
When stopping in make sure you're generous with your tips and complements on the service. It's great.
Considering it is now about 3:03 on Wednesday I'll leave it to you to stop in and see just how great it is.

2008.09.17 The OutPost Bar & Grill RC: SandyE
Wonderfully smooth hour and a half run through the northern townships that we don't visit much these days.
It was already quite dark, with an almost full moon that beckoned us to keep riding - cool, crisp evening air.
The call of the OutPost was stronger and once we got in I know everyone had a great time. Plenty of good food appeared before us - before the sign in was half over.
Kerri, behind the front bar, was taking three and four
orders at a time without a mixup. She was also able to keep one of the taller members at arms length without breaking stride. All of the servers, back bar tenders and usual patrons took our crowding of the isle in stride also.
Towards the end of the evening the owner, Jimmy, made and appearance and told up how the entire staff enjoyed having us. We also let him know we appreciated the good food and service and have nothing but good things to say about the people and food.
Looks like we'll be having the OutPost as a new sponsor so make sure you drop in a couple more times this year and then get them into the ride schedule next year.
It's after 1:30am; pictures will be posted sometime tomorrow, in the afternoon, maybe. Hey, I'm out of work - sleeping in is OK. Oh, heck - I may as well do it now. I needed another beer anyway.

2008.09.20 Flood Run with great weather RC: Scarfy
The Flood Run just isn't the same anymore - Where is the rain, wind, high water? The thousands that showed up really didn't seem to mind the sunshine and mild temps.
Every stop was packed. Seems that there are more people every year. Me and Jason took a few side roads starting at 'A'. We only made it to Maiden Rock before heading back for Shrimp in Prescott. Plenty of West Bankers at each stop. What did you see? Share it!

2008.09.24 Lucky's 13 Pub in Mendota RC: Tracey
Great start and it was going real smooth through Downtown Minneapolis and then into downtown St. Paul where Tracey was down to only 3 bikes in the group. Looks like there may have been a corner marker that panicked causing lots of riders to go astray.
Tracey waited about 13 minutes and then continued on to Lucky's 13 where we were sure the others were already enjoying the hospitability. And that they were.
Very nice inside and even better outside where there is a
fire pit in the middle of the main table. Very nice.
Cool, crisp, star filled night - just right for riding.

The 35W bridge roars back to life before sunrise on 9/18/08. The camera crew caught our own MarkK in the lane closest to the camera, directly behind the large DOT trucks. Mark is on the left of the 2 motorcycles in the left lane. He's now one of the famous people!! View the Video page here.

If anyone has a RAM Mount for the handlebars, or a RAM mount that has the flat bottom plate, that they will give up real cheap please contact the WebMaster.

All riders with vertical license plates - You may be targeted for a ticket - read more

If you haven't been keeping track - this is your reminder that this Saturday, 9/27, is the last 'official' club ride. There will still be lots of people at The Junction for Wed & Sat. rides

2008.09.27 Stein Haus in Vermillion, MN RC: PatS
For the last club ride of this season we took the long way around. Out to Hastings; pass by Treasure Island to get on that nice twisty stretch back to 61 and into Welch.
Welch is the start of another twist and turn section that is a delight to drive - Co. 7. Then it was the long haul on 19 to Cannon Falls. Here we passed a bunch of really old cars; model A's or there 'bouts. Got some pictures you can see on the photo's page for Vermillion.
It was still overcast on arrival at the Stein Haus but the weather was mild; no sign of moisture. Vern, on his way back from a week of riding in the Branson, MO area was already having a brew when we showed up.
With 21 bikes and 27 sign-in's (doesn't seem right but that's what the sheet shows) we put lots of pressure on the Stein Haus staff to get us fed and watered. They were up to the task and everyone was happy.
By 4 bunches of people started heading on to Lane & Tina's reception. Best wishes for your new lifestyle.
As Me and Kevin headed out around 5 we saw PaulM & JimM heading into Vermillion. Guess I should have turned back so they could sign in - Me bad. Had to follow that Snortin', Smokin' Norton.
That Snortin' Norton sure sounds great running up the highway at 70.

2008.10.08 Bamboo Betty's, Circle Pines RC: Scarfy
You really missed something good. Fantastic weather & 23 bikes slipping through the 35W traffic for another fall post season run up to Bamboo Betty's in Circle Pines. Look for their ad on the sponsors page for the address.
It was dark when we got to the Bamboo Betty's but that's nothing new at this time of year; along with the late leave.
A great place with plenty of room and a great patio.
With over 23 bikes and a couple of other showing up on 4 wheels we pretty much took over the place in the early evening. The bar staff tried their best to keep up with the multiple orders being fired at them - Good job.
Joe did his best to coral every one of the females that got within arms length and even a few from across the room with only a point and finger twitch indicating 'come here'.
Latter in the evening when the Karaoke started up we had a couple of guys belting out a tune and a few others took a turn or two around the dance floor. Others spent their time out on the patio, in the soft chairs and under the bamboo umbrellas, enjoying the bright half moon stuck on to the clear dark, star filled sky.
Go on up to Bamboo Betty's as they are one of our sponsors - well worth a visit.

** Don't forget the Halloween get together this Sat. Oct 18th at Rags (Al's) place at Viking Blvd NW & Nowthen Blvd). Lane & Band will be playing. Planned start: 3pm.
More info as I get the details or enter you can enter information about current 'goings on' in the new discussion board yourself - it's easy - try it...

2008.10.11 Year End Party 2008 --pictures
Another great Year End Party at Dick's Porting. Over half of the 2008 members showed up; A pig weighting in at 140 lbs turned out pretty good - Plenty for everyone with the human undesirables going to the dogs. Awards presentations and sponsors contributions enough to enable the start of a second round of prizes.
I was able to coral a couple of people into taking pictures but they only go somewhere around 350 photo's. This will take me a couple of days to sort through so hang in there; I will go as fast as I can. Bamboo Betty's pics up.
A special thanks goes out to Dick Snyder for again allowing us to use Dicks Porting for the Year End Party.
Thanks for all those that showed up on Friday to get the place cleaned up and setup.
Everyone that brought food, deserts, Snacks to share.
Thanks to all the sponsors for providing some very fine items to pass out to our members.
Thanks to those that helped with the clean up.
If I had a brain for remembering names I would list everyone - but since I don't... All I can say is Thanks to all.
Anyone that has a better recollection of the events of the evening please send them in and I will make sure they appear here. Pictures , especially the embarrassing one's, will also be appreciated and published quickly.

2008.10.18 Two events on another clear, bright Saturday
A gathering at Al's where Lane's band rocked the neighborhood from inside the natural wood band shell built by Al. Hand cut timbers with old fashion twine wrapping holding everything together. Big pot of Chili, hot dogs on the grill and people in great costumes.
Next up was a surprise birthday party for Doc's at his place. Mike McCabe got honorable mention on the cake since it was also his birthday. Plenty of chili, chocolate covered strawberry's and one very sweet chocolate cake for desert. A large fire kept everyone gathered outside until late into the night.

**Halloween Party at The Junction Thu, Fri October 30 & 31st. Sat Nov 1st is Halloween Singles day.
