The 2003, 55th annual I-Cycle Derby

On January 1st, 2003 the temperature was only about 20 degrees when several Twin Cities motorcycle enthusiasts gathered at CHIEF'S TOWING, INC. The occasion was the 55th anniversary run of the Traveler's Motorcycle Club, I-Cycle Derby.

This prestigious winter motorcycle road riding event has become known as one of the Twin Cities most grueling of the year. It is held regardless of the weather conditions. This year the contestants were fortunate with the balmy 20 degrees. It could have just as easily been 20 below zero. These hearty individuals must deal with, not only the cold, but also snow and ice.

The bikes came in all sizes. Some were thermostatically controlled, insuring perfect operation in all kinds of weather. Many of the riders wore heated clothing. Many of the bikes and riders didn't finish. Of the ones that did, West Bank's own Keith (Smoker) Efron finished in third place. And, he was riding his old Triumph chopper! Another West Banker, Don Drew finished in eighth place. There were other WBMC people there but I don't know how they did. If you were there and want to share your experience with the rest of us, write me.
